Finding a voice and vocation with Best Lives
Brittany joined our structured day services in Merseyside in 2018. With encouragement from staff and person-centred support, she has grown in confidence and found a sense of belonging.
Leading the way
With guidance from staff, Brittany helped set up our Young Person’s Group. She created a space where others can speak up and get creative.
Staff supported her during this process. This ranged from planning the group to running arts and crafts sessions. She also helps others have their say in Voice for All, our self-advocacy group.
Brittany also receives one-to-one support from her team. This helps her travel by public transport and explore new places like the World Museum, parks, and beaches. We support Brittany with travel planning, helping her feel confident when she is out in the community.
“Trust the staff. They make you feel welcome and happy. It’s a good place to come to.”
Brittany, supported at Best Lives
Building skills at the Olive Tree Café
Every Friday, Brittany helps in the Olive Tree Café. The Best Lives team has taught her how to use kitchen equipment safely and try new recipes, like Japanese pancakes and her favourite cheesecake. With this support, she is building real-world skills she can be proud of.
She also takes part in activities that make her feel good. This includes playing bingo, running raffles, and joining in with discos at inclusive venues. Our support team is always on hand to make sure Brittany can take part fully and safely.
Looking to the future
With our help, Brittany has made lasting friendships and discovered a love for group activities. She is proud of how far she has come and already has her eye on what is next.
She would love to join more social clubs for people with learning disabilities, and we are excited to support her in finding new opportunities.
