Animal care
Located at Lisieux Hall, Pets’ Corner is a dedicated animal care day service where adults are supported to care for animals in a purposeful environment.
Pets’ Corner offers real experiences, including feeding, grooming, and quietly observing the residents. The site is home to a wide variety of animals, such as small animals, reptiles, and the recently introduced chickens and goats.
Hands-on learning
The service offers plenty of opportunities to get involved in every aspect of animal welfare. Each activity is designed to be engaging and rewarding. It helps the people supported at Best Lives to build new skills while enjoying the unique bond that comes with caring for living creatures.
The team takes an active role in the day-to-day care of the animals, learning essential tasks that ensure their wellbeing, such as:
- Nutrition: Managing feeding and water schedules
- Welfare: Carrying out regular health checks
- Environment: Cleaning and maintaining natural habitats
- Wellbeing: Providing exercise and enrichment activities
Working towards personal goals
Because Pets’ Corner is open to the public, it offers a fantastic opportunity to build confidence in social situations.
Every month, individuals are set personal goals to help them focus on progression. These could include mastering specific animal care skills, leading a demonstration to visitors, or improving confidence in public interactions. The team celebrates every achievement, big or small, ensuring that every step forward is recognised.
