Modern slavery statement

Last updated: June 2026

Best Lives Limited is committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in all areas of our organisation and supply chain. We believe everyone has the right to be treated with dignity, fairness and respect, and we take our responsibilities under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 seriously.

We operate a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in our decision-making, employment practices and supplier relationships, and to maintaining effective controls that help us identify, prevent and address potential risks. We expect colleagues to remain alert to signs of exploitation and to raise any concerns through the appropriate safeguarding or reporting channels.

Who we are

Best Lives Limited is a not-for-profit social care organisation providing supported living, residential, nursing and day services across the North West of England. We support people with learning disabilities, complex health and social needs, dementia and other conditions, helping them to live with greater independence, wellbeing and access to healthcare.

The organisation is governed by a Board of Trustees, which provides oversight and helps ensure that Best Lives acts in the best interests of the people we support, our colleagues and the wider organisation. Our governance arrangements support accountability, sound decision-making and responsible risk management across the business.

Oversight of this statement and the related processes sit with senior leadership, supported by our governance and operational controls.

Our operations are based in the UK. While our primary activities take place domestically, we recognise that modern slavery risks can still arise within service delivery, recruitment and procurement, and we take a proportionate approach to identifying and managing those risks.

Our policies and controls

We support our approach through a range of internal policies, procedures and controls, including procurement, safeguarding, recruitment, whistleblowing and wider governance arrangements. Our purchasing processes are designed to promote responsible sourcing, appropriate due diligence and clear approval routes when procuring goods and services.

Due diligence and risk management

We apply due diligence processes when engaging suppliers and expect them to operate lawfully, ethically and in line with the principles of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. We continue to review our procurement and supplier assurance arrangements so that potential areas of risk can be identified early and managed appropriately.

Training and ongoing review

We make training, guidance and safeguarding resources available to colleagues so they can recognise the signs of modern slavery and human trafficking and understand how to report concerns. This helps build awareness across the organisation and supports the appropriate escalation of potential issues.

We review our approach regularly as part of our wider governance, safeguarding and workforce assurance activity. This includes monitoring the effectiveness of key controls within our direct workforce and continuing to assess supplier relationships to ensure they reflect our values and expectations.

This statement applies to the financial year ending 31 March 2026.
